The Toothless Justice System of the Philippines: How Politics Has Rendered It Useless

The justice system in the Philippines has lost its ability to function independently. It no longer bites, nor does it even chew—it simply swallows whatever those in power feed it. The judiciary, meant to be a pillar of democracy, has been reduced to a puppet, manipulated by the whims of politicians rather than upholding the law.

Justice No Longer Bites

A true justice system is supposed to hold the powerful accountable and protect the rights of its citizens. However, in the Philippines, justice bends depending on who is in power. Cases against political allies are dismissed or delayed indefinitely, while cases against critics and opposition figures move with unnatural speed, often leading to questionable rulings. This selective application of the law has turned justice into a tool of political convenience rather than a guardian of fairness.

The Judiciary’s Dentures Have Been Removed

When a person loses their teeth, they can no longer chew their food properly. The same goes for a justice system stripped of its independence. Instead of carefully weighing evidence and delivering fair verdicts, it blindly accepts the narrative set by those in control. Courts that should be the last line of defense for the people have become extensions of political machineries, approving decisions that favor those in power.

A Nation Swallowing the Lies

With the judiciary serving as a mere echo chamber for political figures, the country is forced to swallow whatever narrative is fed to it. Corruption cases are buried, human rights abuses are ignored, and legal processes are weaponized. Instead of serving justice, the system now serves those who manipulate it.

The Philippines deserves better. A justice system must be independent, fearless, and fair. It must have the courage to bite when necessary and the wisdom to chew before swallowing. Until reforms are made and political influence is removed from the judiciary, justice in the Philippines will remain nothing more than an empty mouth—incapable of biting, chewing, or standing for the truth.
